Fixr puts a wood fence at $15 to $35 a linear foot installed; HomeAdvisor says $10 to $30. Which wood, what style and how tall all move where you land.
Pine against cedar
The two guides don't agree here, so here are both as published:
| Fixr, installed per foot | HomeAdvisor, installed per foot | |
|---|---|---|
| Pine | $10 to $25 | $45 to $90 |
| Cedar | $15 to $30 | $27 to $43 (cedar and cypress) |
Fixr has pine as the cheaper wood. HomeAdvisor's pine figure sits above its own cedar figure, so get a quote for both. HomeAdvisor also lists spruce as an economical choice at $22 to $35 a foot.
A 6 foot privacy fence
HomeAdvisor puts a six foot wood privacy fence at $25 to $50 a linear foot, labor included.
How long it lasts
Fixr says a pressure-treated pine fence lasts 10 to 15 years on average before it needs replacing, and a well-built fence of quality wood about 20 years with routine upkeep. Upkeep means stain or paint: Fixr gives $2.25 to $10 a linear foot to paint a wood fence, and $1,000 to $3,000 as the average to stain a fence. What makes a wood fence last.
